The short version
- This site sets no cookies on your device and shows no adverts.
- Visits are counted in a way that does not identify you.
- The only personal details kept are the ones you choose to send through the contact form or live chat.
- Your information is never sold or passed on for marketing.
- The videos, thumbnails and fonts come from Google's servers, and playing a video is covered by YouTube's own terms.
What is collected, and why
Counting visits
When you open a page, the site records which page it was, the name of the website that linked you here (if any), whether you were on a phone, tablet or computer, and the time. When you start a song in the on-site player, it records which song.
To tell one visitor from another for a single day, the site makes a scrambled code from your IP address and your browser's description, mixed with a random key. That key is replaced every day and the old one is destroyed. Your IP address itself is never saved, the code cannot be turned back into it, and a visit today cannot be linked to a visit tomorrow.
This is done to see which songs and pages people actually visit. The legal basis is legitimate interests: understanding how the site is used, in a way that does not intrude on anyone. Visit records are deleted after 12 months.
The contact form
If you send a message through the contact form, the site keeps your name, your email address if you gave one, your message and the time it was sent. This is used to read your message and reply to it, and for nothing else. The legal basis is legitimate interests: answering people who get in touch.
Messages are kept until The Audio Puppet deletes them. You can ask for yours to be deleted at any time using the details above.
To keep spam out, a scrambled form of your IP address is held for up to one hour after you send a message. It is used only to limit how many messages can come from one place.
Live chat
When The Audio Puppet is online, a chat box appears on the site. If you use it, the site keeps what you write, your name if you give one, the page you started from, the replies, and the times. This is used to hold the conversation, and for nothing else. The legal basis is legitimate interests: answering people who get in touch.
A chat is deleted 30 days after its last message, or sooner if The Audio Puppet ends it. As with the contact form, a scrambled form of your IP address is held for up to one hour to limit spam.
So that replies reach you as you move between pages, your browser keeps a random chat number until you close the tab. It is created only when you send your first chat message. The cookie policy has the details.
Email, phone and post
If you get in touch directly, your message and contact details are kept for as long as needed to deal with what you wrote about.
Videos, images and fonts from Google
The videos on this site are played by YouTube. The video thumbnails and the portrait photo are loaded from YouTube's image servers, and the typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts. To show you these, your browser connects to servers run by Google, which means Google receives your IP address and details of your browser, as it would for any website that uses them.
The video player uses YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode. Google says that in this mode YouTube does not store information about you unless you play the video. Once you press play, YouTube may set cookies and collect information about what you watch, under Google's privacy policy. Google may process this information outside the United Kingdom. There is more about this in the cookie policy.
Links marked "Open on YouTube" or "Subscribe" take you to youtube.com, which has its own privacy and cookie terms.
Share buttons
The share buttons for WhatsApp, Facebook, X and the rest are ordinary links. They load nothing from those companies and tell them nothing about you while you browse. Only if you click one are you taken to that platform, with the address of the page you are sharing, and from there its own terms apply.
Who else sees your information
- The web hosting company stores this site and the information described above on The Audio Puppet's behalf. Like most hosting companies, it may also keep its own technical logs of requests to the server.
- Google, as described above.
- Information would be disclosed if the law required it.
Nobody else. Your information is not sold, rented or shared for advertising.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information held about you;
- ask for it to be corrected if it is wrong;
- ask for it to be deleted;
- ask for its use to be restricted, or object to its use;
- ask for it to be given to you in a form you can take elsewhere.
To use any of these rights, email info@theaudiopuppet.com or write to the address above. There is no charge, and you will get a reply within one month. Because visit records do not identify anyone, they cannot be matched to you and so cannot be looked up or deleted on request.
If you are unhappy with how your information has been handled, please get in touch first so it can be put right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this policy
If the way this site handles information changes, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change with it.
